MONSTER HOUSE IS OUT NOW!

The door creaks open… but what evils reside within?

Monster House, available on DS, GBA, PS2 and Gamecube, is released today. Based on the Columbia Pictures movie, which is due out in UK cinemas on August 11, “it’s a fun, scary romp that’s perfect for fans of the movie and tykes that like goosebumps,” says Gamezone of the PS2 version.

Being tied-in with an animated movie, the game’s slick animations have attracted plenty of praise already. Total Playstation was particularly impressed: “Even the cutscenes can make pipes look menacing, it’s all very, very well done.” And Gamezone agrees: “The interior environments are amazing. You’re not just trapped inside a house that’s supposed to be a monster – you actually feel like you’re trapped inside a monster.”

Indeed, Gamezone has awarded a sterling 8/10 in its latest review of the Gamecube version. “Monster House is another success story from the world of animated films. This game is a wonderful conversion of the movie, and is an interesting (and sneaky) way to get pre-teens interested in survival/horror. Players both young and old will be intrigued and delighted by the creepy house they must explore, fight off, and escape from to survive. Environments are big (yet claustrophobic), clever, and have a collection of deadly enemies you won’t see anywhere else.”

Gamepro, as fans of the control system, favour the DS version with a 3.5/5, saying “that is both intuitive – you use the directional pad to move and the stylus to shoot – and fun.” Gamespot particularly enjoyed the GBA version, which warranted an impressive 8.2/10, noting that “it certainly is a recipe for a slickly produced movie tie-in that’s genuinely engaging from the moment you start it up until you complete it some 15 hours hence.”

The positive conclusion from the major games site was “For sure, if you enjoyed the Monster House movie, you're bound to enjoy the GBA's Monster House video game. And even if you haven't seen the movie, you might like the game anyway...”
