One-man crime wave hits Stilwater like a brick in the face
The 3rd Street Saints are taking over THQ TV, as Volition offers a run-down of some of the activities which will earn you respect in Saints Row. This is the first of a two part series, so stay tuned for more pimpin’, drive-bys and general bad-ass gang warfare from Volition:
As we’ve said before, open world games are all about the freedom to play the way you want. Saints Row is revolutionising the genre by providing the freedom to progress through the game however you choose, making everything you do matter.
Just to give a quick history lesson, Saints Row follows the main character’s quest to take over the city of Stilwater in the name of the 3rd Street Saints. The city is broken up into neighbourhoods, with each one needing to be taken over individually. To conquer a territory, you must either complete a story-based mission or take down an enemy gang’s stronghold. Before you can do that, you’ll need to earn enough respect to fill your meter, which is done by completing activities.
There are 13 activities in the game, with multiple iterations of each one spread throughout the city. You’ll find 33 locations where activities can be performed. Each activity has eight levels that increase in difficulty each time. Once all levels have been completed, you can no longer earn respect from that location, and you are awarded a special bonus. However, you can still perform these activities and continue to earn cash if you want to.
This week we’ll focus on three of the activities in Saints Row:
Snatch
This is a timed activity which involves hunting down enemy pimps, stealing their hos and returning them to your employer. As the difficulty increases, you’ll need to collect more hos within the time limit and face pimps with bigger weapons, crews and vehicles.
Drug Trafficking
In this activity you protect a drug dealer as he/she drives around the city dropping off goods to buyers. Riding shotgun in the dealer’s car, you’ll be equipped with various weapons to fend off enemy gangs and the authorities. Each round, the opposition puts more pressure on the dealer as you complete the rounds.
Destruction Derby
This mode takes place at the Ultor Dome, Stilwater’s very own indoor stadium. The goal in this activity is to ram the other cars, causing them to explode, before they do the same to you. Each round, you’re required to eliminate more and more cars before someone else does. A quick shot of nitrous does the trick to cause mass destruction.
