RELIC REVEALS TAU KROOTOX UNIT DETAILS AND VIDEO
New Dark Crusade unit goes ape on THQ TV
The Tau and Necron races of Dawn of War - Dark Crusade have been displaying their military might on THQ TV with gusto but the Tau Empire has just raised the stakes with the revelation of its Krootox unit - the Tau equivalent of a 900 pound gorilla (though one which, presumably, Richard Attenborough wouldn’t be so keen to meet).
After you’re finished reading the unit run-down below from Relic lead designer Jonny Ebert, head over to THQ TV to see the video.
The Tau are a finesse race – their military is all about solving problems from a distance with high technology. But the Tau are also smart enough to realise that battles don’t always go as planned, and that they need to be ready to deal with ambushes and melee combat.
So the Tau rely on their allies, the Kroot to deal with melee combat and to run interference for their Fire Warriors. Kroot Carnivores (a unit we discussed in detail a few weeks back) are melee specialists which can deal with normal melee threats, like a horde of axe-wielding Orks. But there are those moments when the Tau need a melee unit that can deal with the heavier hitting units.
This is where the Krootox fits in. The Krootox is a giant ape-like unit that can obliterate just about anything that it can get its hands on: Infantry units, light vehicles, even heavy vehicles. Staying far away from a Krootox is a good policy if you’re an enemy of the Tau.
If you watch the video on THQ TV, you’ll get to see the Krootox in action. The video starts off with a group of Ork raiders getting ready to pillage a Tau base. But the Orks hadn’t counted on the fact that a group of Krootox were there waiting to protect the base.
The Krootox smash the light Ork vehicles with ease and start to chase off the stragglers. But the Orks have some heavy hitting units of their own coming up in support. The Krootox are nearly a match for the Looted Tanks that come rolling in, but they’re outnumbered and start to go down.
That’s when the Hammerhead gunship intervenes and destroys the Looted Tanks from a distant hilltop. Like I said in previous write-ups: There is no problem that the Tau military cannot solve.
That’s all we have for this week. Next week we’ll be talking more about the Necrons.
