EXCLUSIVE! FRONTLINES: FUEL OF WAR DEMO DEVELOPER COMMENTARY
By Kaos Studios general manager Frank DeLise
Hi fellow gamers,
By now you may have heard that the Frontlines: Fuel of War single player demo is now available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace.
Here is what you can expect in the demo. The demo is a small portion of the second mission in the game where you are part of the Stray Dogs division getting ready to clear the way to a Russian tank factory.
Your job will be to clear the town, take out all the objectives and head towards the factory with a full suite of weapons and vehicles.
You start the mission with a squad of soldiers and an assault rifle. However, throughout the mission you’ll find an assortment of weapons hidden around the level including: sniper rifle, rocket launcher, laser target marker to call in a cluster bomb air strike, radio controlled C4 drone car, and a really cool radio controlled helicopter drone that fires mini-rockets. These drones are just a small taste of the 60+ weapons and vehicles in Frontlines.
One of the unique features of Frontlines is the ability to take any objective in any order you want. Look for various ways through that map as you can climb buildings and take objectives out of order. This way you can use weapons from other objectives against previous objectives that you skipped.
Also keep in mind that when you die, we don’t stop time. This means the fight continues and you never have to redo what you have already done. If and when you die, however, you can redeploy with a different starting weapon such as a heavy assault rifle, rocket launcher or shotgun.
Some tips when playing the demo: If someone is hiding behind cover, blow it up. Cover in the game can be destroyed with grenades, C4, rockets and any other high powered weapons. Keep that in mind if you are hiding behind something as well.
If you see extra drones, pick them all up and save them for later parts of the mission. For example, I love using the C4 drone during the tank battle. I get out of my APC, hide behind a rock and use the C4 drone to take out tanks. Or if you take the rail depot first, use the cluster bomb air strike that you pick up there on the tanks in the valley.
Another fun feature in the game is the rocket launcher’s ability to lock on to a target. During the tank battle, equip your rocket launcher and zoom into a tank. Once zoomed you will see a “lock-on” appear. Once locked, you can point the rocket launcher up in the air and it will draw a line to the target. This allows you to attack a target from any direction. Hitting the tank from the top hits its weak spot.
Well those are just some of the fun stuff you get to play with in the demo and we hope you enjoy it as we finish up the game so you can enjoy the full experience and all out war in multiplayer.
