It's time to live the life of a Superstar. How will you play?
WWE SMACKDOWN VS RAW 2008 - WII MAIN EVENT MODE
Wii's exclusive single player experience explained
In WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 for the Wii, it's up to the players to decide which paths their Superstars will take to get to the top of the WWE in the exclusive single player experience, Main Event Mode. Here, players begin their campaign by not only choosing which Superstars or Create A Superstars they want to use, but also which brands they want to initially be a part of, as well as whether their Superstars will be clean or dirty. These decisions should not be taken lightly, as a Superstar's brand dictates which championships they can go for, as well as which WWE Divas and Legends they will encounter as they rise through the ranks of the WWE.
In Main Event Mode, the player has total control of their Superstar's destiny. Immediately following their first match, the user is granted entry to their Superstar's locker room. Here, they can not only check where they stand on the WWE.com Power 25, but players also have access to a cell phone, their single most important link to the world of the WWE. Using this tool, players will send and receive text messages to and from their fellow Superstars, set up matches, recruit Tag Team partners and get important information from their brand's General Manager. At first, the player will have access to only a handful of Superstars, but as their Superstar climbs the WWE ladder, more and more contacts will be at their disposal, as well as additional opportunities to elevate their Superstar from Jobber to Main Eventer.
Just like in the actual WWE, a Superstar's career hinges on their popularity with the fans. Players gain popularity for their Superstar by not only being victorious in the ring, but also aligning themselves with other Superstars, and acting clean or dirty depending on their Superstar's persuasion. For example, if you're playing as a clean Superstar, you'll want to make it a point to challenge dirty Superstars in order to earn ever-important bonuses in popularity. As Superstars gain popularity with the fans, the player will earn access to RAW, SmackDown and ECW, title shots, as well as PPV Arenas, Divas and Legends that will be unlocked for use in other game modes. In fact, there's so much content to unlock that a player will have to complete several playthroughs, taking different paths each time, if they wish unlock everything. In Main Event Mode, the player decides which Superstars they want as their allies, which brands they want to jump to, which Divas they'd like to get to know better and most importantly, which WWE Championships they want around the Superstar's waist. With WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 for the Wii, the Superstar's legacy is truly in the player's hands
