DESTROY ALL HUMANS! 2 INTERVIEW
Pandemic's Derek Proud survives an alien abduction with THQ TV!
THQ TV caught up with Pandemic's Derek Proud, only to be abducted by aliens and driven away in a stretch Hummer limousine. Luckily we all got out alive. Zoom over to THQ TV to see the footage we recovered from the alien mothership and read on below for more information about Destroy All Humans! 2 from Derek.
Destroy All Humans! was one of the big hits of last summer, but the very fact that there's a Destroy All Humans! 2 suggests that the Furon invasion wasn't 100% successful... Can you fill us in on the plot developments since the first game?
The second game picks up where the first game left off. Crypto is the President of the USA, and living the good life in the 1960's. However, while he is partying in Bay City park with the hippies, the Russians launch a two pronged attack and take out the mothership and attempt to assassinate Crypto. This sets Crytpo on a worldwide tour to try and track down his attackers!
The prequel was set in communist-fearing 1950's America, DaH! 2 takes place in the swinging sixties. What characters and locations will Crypto discover this time around, and which sacred 60's institutions have you mercilessly poked fun at?
Crypto's path of revenge take him all over the world after the attack in America; including Albion in England, Takoshima in Japan and Tunguska in Russia. There is also a fifth secret location as well. He is helped on his way this time by some very interesting humans, including an ex-KGB soviet spy called Natalya, and a member of the British Secret Service called Ponsonby. As you might have guessed, we poke a lot of fun at spy movies in this game!
What new weapons and abilities does Crypto have at his disposal?
Crypto has eight weapons to choose from in this game, which is four more than the last game. They include the disclocator (which sends and antigravity disc into whoever, or whatever, you shoot it at, and send them flying about the map), the burrow beast (which calls up a monstrous beast from under the ground to eat humans) and the awesome Meteor Strike (which basically does exactly that).
The first game was single player only, what multiplayer options have you included in DaH! 2?
DAH! 2 will be multiplayer from beginning to end in co-op split screen mode. We also have some two-player specific mini games that players can enjoy.
Destroy All Humans! had its own unique brand of humour - how has the 1960's setting enabled you build on that in DaH! 2?
The 1960's was a time of great change, social upheaval and optimism for the future. All great things to make fun of! It was also a time of sexual revolution, which the writers obviously used to great effect in the game. As I mentioned we also make fun of the spy movies that came out in the 1960's and we also make fun of the Japanese monster movies that also appeared at that time. You can expect to fight a huge mutant in the streets of Japan this time around!
Destroy All Humans! 2 is playable at the THQ booth this week, what can show-goers expect to get their hands on?
They can expect to get their hands on an Anal Probe to begin with; no DaH game would be complete without that. We will be showing lots of areas from the game and we hope people like it!
